Fall fieldwork can be chilly, but fun! This central Wisconsin beach had been crossed before we got there by many creatures great and small: big deer, little deer, coyotes, otters, beaver, raccoons, little bitsy things–and three little bears with their mama, just strolling along the shore. Mom was closest to the water the whole way. The frozen sand preserved their tracks, and the low-angle sun picked them out. Wish I’d had more time for photos!
