Gun Flint Caps

March 8, 2016

Gun Flint CapsThese gun flint caps were found at Second Fort Crawford in Prairie du Chien. It was a regular practice for the US Army to mount flints in the cock of the musket, rifle, or pistol by placing them in between layers of lead before tightening the flint screw. Sometimes two separate flint caps were used above and below the flint.
